Nourishment for the Body, Mind & Soul

September

MY STYLE OF YOGA

I teach and practice a slow vinyasa flow style of yoga, infused with elements of hatha, katonah and yin yoga. I enjoy teaching in a way that is creative and fun while being purposeful, safe and alignment based. My classes usually include breath work, thorough warm ups and cool downs and creative standing and seated sequences, all with detailed cueing and background information so that you can grow your own practice. I like to weave together the physical and philosophical aspects of yoga in a way that is accessible and relevant for anyone trying to live meaningful and fulfilling lives in our hectic modern world. My intention is to hold a space where you can reconnect to joy inside you and leave feeling strong and inspired. And hopefully take that feeling off the mat and back into your life!

MY RETREAT OFFERING

In the morning, we will awaken for a mediation session followed by a vinyasa flow yoga class, incorporating breath work and a dynamic physical practice. We will work on strength, flexibility, balance, awareness and integration giving you a well-rounded physical practice and leaving you feeling energized and joyful. Each day will be built around insights from one of the 5 elements from Traditional Chinese Medicine, helping us reconnect to the wisdom of nature.

Between the yoga sessions there will be ample time to luxuriate in the natural beauty that is Silver Island. After sharing a delicious meal together, you can swim in crystal clear waters, lounge in a hammock, read a book, take a nap and reconnect with the simple joys in life.

We will come back together for a late afternoon yin and myofascial release practice. This time will be dedicated to creating space to find physical, mental and emotional calm, reconnect your body and mind, and bring your awareness back to the present moment.

The whole week will be curated to leave feeling nourished, restored, and equipped with new tools to take this into your everyday life. By exploring being in our usual doing world, you will have the chance to rest, restore and recharge. Most importantly, we will do this in a way that is light and playful and explore the idea that it may not matter what we do but how we do it!

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM THIS RETREAT

This retreat is open to absolutely everyone who is interested in exploring tools to live a happier and healthier life in our modern world. I will tailor the classes to meet the individual needs of each person, accommodating those coming to yoga for the first time and those looking to deepen their established practice. There will always be a variety of options for different levels so that everyone can find a comfortable space to practice.

WHAT YOU WILL TAKE HOME

At the end of this retreat, it is my intention that guests leave feeling refreshed, peaceful, and strong. You will feel inspired and empowered to take the practices and tools we have worked with and integrate these into your everyday lives to hold onto the space, clarity and joy that you have experienced during the week on the island. On a practical level, you will have a greater understanding of yoga and meditation as tools to support your life and will have developed a solid foundation that you can continue to build on.

WHY I TEACH YOGA

I teach yoga because I am passionate about sharing the practices that have helped me so profoundly. I have experienced first-hand how yoga can support us to create the mental, physical and emotional space to get perspective on life, live in line with our values and find inner strength and contentment. I discovered yoga over 20 years ago while studying at university and since then it has been a constant support during my professional life. I did my first teacher training (200hr) in Bali in 2011 with the intention of deepening my own practice and in the process discovered a love for teaching, which I have been doing ever since. In 2017 I completed my advanced teacher training (500hr) with my teacher Vidya Heisel from Frog Lotus Yoga and feel honoured to be able to share this knowledge. I have also completed my ACC and PCC training as a certified Integral Coach and offer coaching sessions while on the island if you would like to use the time to explore personal or leadership development themes.

Until very recently, I ran a university food systems research and education center and I continue to be passionate about learning and sharing the latest knowledge on food, sustainability and wellbeing (for more information see: www.thegreatfull.com). I am always happy to discuss these topics during the retreat if you are interested.
